The main goal of the Enhancing Roma youth work project is to enhance inclusion and diversity in a wide array of fields, namely education, training, youth, and sport. Furthermore, the project aims at increasing of the quality, innovation and recognition of youth work. In doing so, the project wants simultaneously to build capacity and cooperation, to further develop and deepen a solid network of youth work organizations dealing with the Roma community, and finally, to develop and create a manual with a collection of best practices and new approaches in dealing with Roma youth.
This should also include in-depth information on the following aspects directly related to the priority “Roma and/or other minorities”:
- Promoting intercultural understanding and improving the quality of youth work: exchanges between youth workers from different NGOs already working with Roma should promote a better understanding of cultural differences, traditions and needs;
- Existing methods, experiences and difficulties between youth workers (Roma and non-Roma from different organizations and countries) are discussed and analyzed;
- Strengthening the social skills of youth workers: through targeted workshops, youth workers will be better prepared to identify and respond appropriately to the specific needs of Roma communities;
- improving social inclusion: the project will aim to identify barriers and develop best practices to improve the social inclusion of Roma in educational institutions, health systems and the labor market;
- building sustainable partnerships: The project will promote the formation of partnerships between social services, NGOs, educational institutions and Roma representatives to ensure long-term support and cooperation.
- raising awareness of Roma culture and history: organizing and implementing local and international activities that lead the participating partner organizations and the participating social workers on the one hand to a deeper understanding of the needs of young Roma and on the other hand to a local and international exchange on approaches and methods that enhance youth work itself.
